East Faldonside, Melrose

East Faldonside is a small courtyard steading, originally comprising three small dilapidated cottages linked to workshops and stables serving Faldonside House on the south bank of the Tweed.

A family home has been formed by linking two of the cottages and incorporating the original arched courtyard access which has been glazed at both ends to form a dramatic lounge space. The third cottage including the former workshops and stables has also been converted into an extremely popular holiday home with full provision for disabled guests. New bay windows project into the courtyard to open up the living spaces and to bring more sunlight into the interior.

The project is complemented by impressive landscaping incorporating extensive tree planting down to the banks of the Tweed.
