Walden Terrace, Gifford

With this development of 36 new-build affordable dwellings for The Homes for Life Housing Partnership representing a 16% housing capacity increase in this rural East Lothian village, and with the site being located within the conservation area where strict design guidance was to be followed, early consultations with both community and Planning representatives enabled all concerns to be resolved.

While the development neatly infilled a gap site at the south-eastern corner of the existing settlement and created development closure, it was nevertheless a Planning requirement that the layout should allow for future expansion over farm land to the east, while at the same time considering the appearance of the scheme at the edge of the settlement meantime.

This development was part of a phased programme to provide around 400 new-build affordable dwellings over a period of approximately 5 years.
