Lamer Street, Dunbar

Consisting of 12 new-build flats in 2 blocks along with the conversion of a former stone stable block into 2 flats, this development for East Lothian Housing Association is nestled into a backlands site within the Conservation Area adjacent to Dunbar’s old harbour.

he design objective was to create an attractive new development making full use of a very tight, sloping and narrow rig site, while carefully considering detailing, materials and colours to respect the character and diversity of the Conservation Area.

he layout was also designed to conform to an overall masterplan for the area aimed at creating pedestrian walkways and courtyards parallel to the coastline.  One of the site challenges was the creation of footpath links over a 4m height difference from the High Street down to the shore.
