Edinburgh Castle

As guardians of Edinburgh Castle, Historic Scotland were required to upgrade the heating system in the ancient fortification to meet sustainability targets.

The works included multi-boiler replacements and alterations to heating plant, pumps, pipework and control valves throughout the Castle.

Numerous hazards associated with the works had to be carefully managed. Due to the constant volume of visitors and the difficulties in accessing the buildings, deliveries had to be carefully managed, with segregation of the works from the public being paramount.  With the works taking place throughout the Category A, B and C listed Castle, these had to be carefully organised to protect the historically important structure, while minimising any impact on the experience of the thousands of daily visitors.
